Applied Mechanics Reviews Book Description Knowledge of the mechanical properties of the skeletal system is important to understanding how our body works and how to repair it when it is damaged. This book is written primarily as a text for graduate and advanced undergraduate students taking courses on skeletal biomechanics, and it serves to integrate anatomy and physiology with structural and material behavior in a way that is highly didactic.It is rigorous in its approach to the mechanical properties of the skeleton, without requiring mathematics beyond calculus or neglecting the biological properties of skeletal tissue. Time is taken to introduce basic mechanical and biological concepts, and the approaches used for some of the engineering analyses are purposefully limited. The book is an effective bridge between engineering, veterinary, biological and medical disciplines. Each chapter finishes with sets of exercises to test the student and the book will be welcomed by students and researchers in biomechanics, orthopedics, physical anthropology, zoology, and veterinary science.
